Resistance

If you are taking this course voluntarily, you have already agreed to do something different. You might not know exactly what that is going to mean, but you have agreed to move in a new direction.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that this course is going to be sunshine and unicorns. Talking or even thinking about change can bring a bad taste to one’s mouth. Seemingly instinctively we tell ourselves:

STOP LISTENING

that

THERE IS NO TIME FOR THAT

and

THAT’S JUST IMPOSSIBLE.

If you are (or someone you love is) already on edge rationally…they might think that their free will is attempting to be taken. One might think that they are being asked, no, TOLD to turn into a hippie or millennial or snowflake and let the weakest of the humans take over.

All of this because we become afraid of our ability to encounter

What exactly?

To encounter new or uncomfortable ideas. We often feel unprepared or ill-equipped intellectually, emotionally, or otherwise.

Do I resist thinking about the following ideas?

  • Less suffering for mankind
  • More happiness for myself/others
  • Closing my eyes
  • Slowing my breath
  • Learning new words/languages
  • Stretching
  • Movement/dancing
  • Being told what to do

As soon as we DO decide to think about these kinds of things, though, we are a step closer to thinking well.

Instead of exploring the roots of your resistance, you are going to gain tools that will better prepare you for new ideas, new encounters, and discomfort.
